Camera Suggestions?

So, I've been needing (or wanting) a new camera for a long time now. I mean, the majority of my gallery is photography and I just uploaded some more today. Now I think I'll be making the steps to get a new camera. I'm a bit on the broke side right now but I'm going to put aside some money every paycheck.

So I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for a good DSLR?
My digital camera is just not up to par.

I mostly photograph landscapes, nature and such but I like to do action pictures and some portrait work. Thanks guys!

It'd be great if I can get some suggestions. I am a broke college student so if you have some cheaper DSLR suggestions that are still good quality that's cool. But really...any recommendations under $1000.
